Facing Yourself

This weekend, I competed at Central Grand Prix in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Surprisingly, I found myself competing alone, as my division lacked participants... Despite the limited time to prepare because of work, I refused to take it lightly or settle for an effortless victory. Instead, I embraced the challenge as an opportunity to push my own limits. You know how say that we are our harshest critics? Well in that moment, I truly understood the depth of that statement.
As I made my way to the ring, realizing there was no one standing across from me, I made a decision right then and there—to compete with the most formidable opponent I have ever faced: myself. My aim was not just to outperform my previous score from other tournaments, but to surpass my own expectations. Facing oneself is not always easy and can be intimidating, but in doing so, we uncover layers of ourselves we never knew we could face and overcome, as well as unlocking the extraordinary potential that resides within.
This journey was not without its trials, as the results I recieved did not align with my desires. As I bowed to the mat when walking off, I was proud of each good moment of triumph throughout it all.

While I proudly carry a medal home, its true significance lies beyond its shimmering surface. I am proud to have traveled through three states, for it was not in vain. I am proud to have walked in confidence and perform the hours of what I had practiced. I am proud to have not given up, but continue to strive for excellence. I am proud to not go home empty handed, but place in this sport. What truly matters most is the transformative power of knowledge, the profound understanding gained, the boldness cultivated, and the unshakable determination on which I continue to stand upon. One thing that inspires me about my team is that we firmly believe that we never lose; instead, we gain experience and come back even stronger.

So, I leave this chapter behind, carrying within me the flames of an indomitable spirit, ready to face new challenges and conquer new heights. I know nationals will have more competitors, and I will be ready to face what comes next - even if it is myself.

May my experience inspire you to fearlessly walk into new chapters in life with your head high, to embrace the experience and season you are in, and to triumph over your own self-imposed limitations. Remember, the most extraordinary battles are not fought against external foes, but within the depths of our own souls. Never be afraid. Be ready to learn, grow, and try again. Because I believe that you can do anything you set your mind to. Above all else, all things are possible. ✨️
Facing the depths of oneself can be a daunting journey, encompassing self-image, comparison, eating disorders, addiction, mental health, trauma, chronic illness, fear, anxiety, or any other battle you may be confronting in this very moment. However, let it be known that there is a tomorrow that holds the potential for a brighter path, beyond the darkness that you face now.
In these trying times, remember to never surrender. You are inherently worthy, just as you are. Change may not unfold overnight, but it is within your grasp, steadily approaching. I firmly believe in your capacity to triumph. If you find yourself unable to do it alone, extend your hand, and we will do it together.
Let us defy the statistics that seek to define us, becoming individuals who leave an indelible mark, transcending the odds stacked against us. May our lives be a testament to victory and the power to overcome.
Matthew 19:26 🙏
"But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
